The Super Banana! Enjoy a Strawberry-Banana-Oat Smoothie With Breakfast
Did you know that bananas are a super food? That’s right! They’re packed with carbohydrates, Vitamin A, iron and are also rich in potassium and natural sugars. This is especially important for the body’s circulatory system to deliver oxygen to the brain. Potassium is also helpful for reducing strokes and regulating blood pressure because of the way it promotes circulatory health.
Since this fruit is so easy to find at the market and pretty easy to pack with you as a snack, I encourage you to incorporate bananas into your diet on a regular basis. It’s a far better choice to address those late afternoon hunger pains we all crave than going to the vending machine! Something interesting I learned is that bananas can also lift your mood. They contain tryptophan, which is also found in turkey. This mood regulating substance contains a level of protein that helps the mind relax so you feel happier. Next time you’re feeling down in the dumps, try a banana and see what happens!
The other day I made a breakfast smoothie with some straberries and a banana I had put in the freezer. To beef it up a little, I added some rolled oats, which kept me full for the morning. This smoothie is a great alternative or addition to your breakfast meal.
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 large frozen banana (peeled)
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk (or other kind of milk)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 2 Tbs all-fruit spread
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and puree, then serve immediately.
